Created a GitHub account ! Handle: @50mj

Am slowly trying to become a part of the Computer Science community! Just joined GitHub, and created an account with the handle "@50mj". Hope to get more familiar and make good progress soon! I am impressed by the initial feel and experience of the site. It is probably one of the best websites I have ever visited, in terms of visuals and graphics! I think you should try it too!

Sample Python Program on Spyder IDE. Made by me today !

Today, it has been just 1 month since I started the program, BS in CS in the US on 23 August, 2021. And it has been just 2 months since I decided to enroll into the program on 23 July, 2021 and started this blog. Below is a sample python program after just 1 month of starting the program ! This was written by me after referring to an example on the internet at this link.

No, I am not yet able to write code on my own, from memory. Yes, I do have to look at examples and look up commands on the internet or from the text book. No, I am not perfect yet.

HOWEVER, I am now able to get some work done! I am able to solve problems and create solutions using software now! Since I have the basic knowledge and basic tools now, I can build on that to achieve better and higher results!

Right now, I am only doing Python and C++ as well as NI Multisim circuit drawings. However, I am happy that my work is relatively clean and bug free for now!

Cheers,

Jerry

Which are the Trillion Dollar American Companies in the year 2021?

Which are the American companies that have a minimum of 1 Trillion dollar market capitalization in 2021?

As per Vocabulary.com's webpage link, a trillion is 1,000,000,000,000, also known as 10 to the 12th power, or one million million

A trillion dollars is a million-million dollars ! That is some serious dough !

Here is a list of US trillion dollar companies in 2021 (as of 29 June, 2021, as per Barrons.com's webpage link):

  1. Apple (ticker: AAPL) is the world's most valued company, at $2.249 trillion
  2. Microsoft (MSFT) is second at $2.024 trillion
  3. Amazon (AMZN) is third in market cap at $1.74 trillion
  4. Google-parent Alphabet (GOOGL) is fourth at $1.67 trillion and
  5. Facebook (FB) is fifth with a worth $1.008 trillion

BSCSUS.com | Vlog #5 | Why am I studying BS in CS? Why is Technology so important in 2021?

I am more than forty years old. I already have education in business management.

Why the heck am I studying Computer Science when I could have been merely focusing on a career in business management or business ownership?

Here are some of my reasons:
  1. Computer languages are the language of the future
  2. Technology is entering every sphere of our lives
  3. Technology is growing at a rapid pace
  4. Adoption of cell phones and mobile devices are increasing at a rapid pace
  5. Marketing field and subject has been disrupted by Social Media
  6. Trade has been disrupted by eCommerce
  7. Finance has been disrupted by online banks, online money transfer services, online trading platforms, and so on
  8. Accounting has been disrupted by online counseling, online budget tools, online tax services and so on
  9. Tangible goods have been disrupted by intangibles like NFT (Non Fungible Tokens)
  10. Technology jobs are on the rise
  11. Technology has scale which traditional business models do not have
  12. Technology companies are among the most powerful and richest companies on the plant
  13. These are only some of the information we have right now. There is more to come in the near future. You simply can not be ignorant about technology anymore !
Cheers,
Jerry

When were some of the popular technology companies founded? Here is a list of some IT companies

Please don’t think that there are already so many Tech companies already in existance, and there is nothing to be done now! Most companies we know in 2021 are less than 20 years old !!!

This is a short list below:

Between 40 and 50 years old:
1975: Microsoft
1976: Apple

Between 20 and 30 years old:
1994: Yahoo
1994: Amazon
1997: Netflix
1998: Google
1999: Alibaba
2000: eHarmony

Between 10 and 20 years old:
2002: LinkedIn
2004: Facebook
2005: YouTube
2005: Reddit
2006: Twitter
2006: Shopify
2009: WhatsApp
2010: Pinterest

Less than 10 years old:
2011: SnapChat
2012: Tinder
2017: TikTok

So you see, there is still hope!

There is still a lot to be done, yet. Roll up your sleeves. Get into the Technology field and game. Do good for the world and yourself.

Cheers!
Jerry

Will try to study the history of Computers, history of Technology and history of Computing and Software

They say "To understand where we are going, we need to understand where we are coming from".

I will try to study the history of computer science, technology, computing, software, and so on, and will post my learnings here as time progresses!

I want to create my own Computer Programming language some day !

Student life is great because you are so committed to academics. You are buried in books and assignments and your brain is in the right environment.

I want to use this opportunity to learn Computer Science in depth and create my own computer language with time !

I know this sounds crazy, however, aiming to create a brand new Computer Programming Language will at least help me understand more about Computer Science !

Popular Computer Languages to learn in the year 2021

I did a search on Google to see which computer languages one should learn or rather which are the popular computer languages right now. I have attached the screenshot below. Thank you Google !

(Please click on image above to enlarge for more clarity)

The following are some popular computer languages as per Google search, as in the image above:

  1. Python
  2. Java
  3. JavaScript
  4. PHP
  5. Ruby
  6. Swift
  7. SQL
  8. C++
  9. CSS
  10. Scala
  11. Rust
  12. HTML
  13. MATLAB
  14. Perl
  15. Objective-C
  16. C Sharp
  17. TypeScript
  18. Julia
  19. Haskell
  20. Prolog
  21. Logic programming
  22. Elm
Of course, this list of computer languages to learn in the year 2021 is not comprehensive or exhaustive. However, for someone like me who is a complete novice, it gives a great idea and overview.

This list is priceless! Thank you Google, for aggregating this list in an easy to understand manner !

Brilliant.org - Hope to learn from it too | When the student is ready, the teacher appears !

I discovered Brilliant.Org as an advertisement on YouTube while watching videos related to Computer Science.

These advertisements are indeed helpful! Good job, Google, and YouTube !!!

I have not yet subscribed to Brilliant.Org, though I did create a free account last week.

Hope to start studying on my own on Brilliant.Org as well, as that I can maximize my learning.

There is a saying that when a student is ready, the teacher appears. So true !

There is also a saying that "When a student is ready, the teacher appears, and when the student is truly ready, the teacher disappears!" I agree !

Only 10 days left for classes to start!

There are only 10 days left for classes to start !

I am excited !

Not doing preparation for classes yet. Have not ordered the textbooks yet. However, am mentally prepared to start classes already.

I am so happy that I will be studying hardcore IT and CS subjects in Fall 2021.

By Summer 2022, I want to become a half-software-engineer already, lol ! Will study hard and try to do well in the program.

In my previous study, I had not paid much attention to the overall GPA, and had instead, tried to focus on learning. However, this time, I will try to get maximum marks and high GPA along with learning so that when the time comes to apply for internships, I will be a good candidate, a great pick for reputed IT companies ! It will be a great learning experience !

Summer 2022 Internships - Companies to keep in mind

Am wondering what technology companies will be hiring interns in the Summer of 2022. The big ones come to mind for now:

  • Google
  • Facebook
  • Amazon
  • Apple
  • (basically the FAANG companies, lol)
  • Other large companies - will update with time, once I have some good info myself

Summer 2022 Internship in mind

My preparation is geared aggressively towards Summer 2022 internships.

I am going to prepare aggressively to get ready for openings next year for students.

To do this, I will prepare the following:

  • Communication skills
  • Social skills
  • Etiquette
  • Computer languages programming skills
  • Computer / Technology hardware knowledge
  • And so on
To be honest, classes have not started yet, and I am pulling all this out of thin air, from my half baked knowledge and experience.

With time, I will get better, and can better advise myself or others about how to prepare for interviews for internships while being students of Computer Science

Courses that I will take for Fall 2021

I plan to take the following 4 courses for Fall 2021:

  1. Algebra
  2. Computer Science Fundamentals (will learn C++ too)
  3. Computer Languages Fundamentals (will learn Python)
  4. Hardware Fundamentals
In addition, I hope to do some learning on my own:
  1. Cisco security courses
  2. Cisco certifications
  3. Project Management skills learning
  4. Operations Management skills learning
  5. Web designing learning, and so on

Double Majoring in Computer Science and Cyber / Computer Security

After getting a brief overview of the various programs and courses, I decided to pursue a double major in Computer Science as well as Cyber / Computer Security.

I had always wanted to do a double major, but had not been sure which other major I should include along with computer science: (1) Information Systems ? (2) Math ? (3) Accounting ? (4) Finance ? and so on.

The combination of Computer Science and Cyber Security seem like a perfect match!

Preparing for classes in last week of August 2021

Classes start in the last week of August 2021.

Already spoke with the advisor and enrolled into classes.

Looked up the required textbooks on the school website.

Hope to order the books on Amazon soon.

Hope to work hard to succeed in this program!

Computer Science is a field that I had wanted to study for a long time !

Secured admission into BS-CS of the university that I was trying for

I did get admission into all 3 programs that I applied to: Two BS-CS programs and one MS-IT program.

I could not complete the 4th application for the AAS-IT program since I was busy, and since AAS would not have been an in-depth study of Computer Science and Information Technology, as compared to a BS program. I agree, though, that an AAS program would have been a gateway into the BS program.

I am happy that I accepted and enrolled into the University of my choice.

I look forward to starting classes in the last week of August 2021
